Mr Tom Johnstone, President and Chief Executive Officer of AB SKF will meet with CBN participants and present “The SKF case: The journey from a classic manufacturer to a value based service provider”.
From the very beginning, SKF has focused intensively on quality, technical development and marketing. The results of the Group's efforts in the area of research and development have led to a growing number of innovations that has created new standards and new products in the bearing world. Today, SKF has developed in to a company that offers a range of services that provides solutions to specific conditions such as; Engineering Consultancy Services, Logistics Services, Asset Management Services and Remanufacturing Services
Today, producers of goods and services often try to increase the value of their product by offering various add-ons to the core product in order to create customer loyalty, secure a higher willingness to pay more and to differentiate from competition. Add-ons are often necessary to meet customer expectations but to be really successful, you have to add value beyond customer expectations.
Mr Johnstone joined SKF in 1977 as a trainee salesman. After 10 years with SKF in the UK he went to Sweden in 1987, worked there for three years, ran a business area in Italy for one year, then came back to Sweden where he has been ever since. The latest position before he became the President of the Group was as Executive Vice President of AB SKF and President of the Automotive Division. Mr Johnstone is also a Board member of Husqvarna AB and the Association of Swedish Engineering Industries.
