In January 2009, Ambassador Jan Eliasson, will participate at a CBN meeting to address the topic “Risk assessments and the effect of global changes, with focus on transatlantic relations”. Two days after the installation of Barack Obama in the White House, Jan Eliasson will talk about what effects this will have on the world economy, the environment, the free trade agreement etc.
Ambassador Jan Eliasson is one of Sweden’s most well known and appreciated international diplomats. Member of the cabinet, Foreign Minister of Sweden, President of the United Nations General Assembly, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, the Secretary-General’s Personal Representative on Iran/Iraq In 1992, the first United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, involved in operations in Somalia, Sudan, Mozambique and the Balkans. Over the course of his diplomatic career, Mr. Eliasson has been posted to New York (twice), Paris, Bonn, Washington (twice) and Harare, where he opened the first Swedish Embassy in 1980. Mr. Eliasson has a deep engagement in and experience from conflict prevention and humanitarian action.
